DIY Pulling Oil

Pulling Oil is an old Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oils in the mouth to eliminate plaque and bacteria. Adding activated charcoal helps with detoxifying, freshens breath, and whitens teeth.


All you need is:

-measuring cup

-spoon

-spatula

-jar

-coconut oil

-activated charcoal

-essential oils


You can find activated charcoal at the bulk barn or most health food stores. The more you use, the more gritty your pulling oil will be. I like the ratio of 1/2 tbsp AC to 1/2 cup of coconut oil.


Directions:

1. Melt coconut oil

2. Add activated charcoal and stir until fully absorbed

3. Add 10-20 drops of essential oil and stir again until well combined

4. Transfer to jar and allow to sit for one hour to harden. Store in a cool, dry place.


Tip: I like to use mine while I'm in the shower washing my hair but spit pulling oil into compost bin; over time the coconut oil could clog pipes in your sink or shower. Activated charcoal is a natural whitener so although it will help clean your sink, it can be a messy process.
